The Isaac Agree Memorial Society was formally established in 1921 by the Agree, Canvasser, Kaplan, Rosin and Zatkin families. Its purpose was to perpetuate the bonds of kinship that link family together and to emulate the achievement which Isaac Agree so nobly initiated in the fields of Jewish Religion, educational and philanthropic activity. In 1926 the Society built a synagogue and Talmud Torah on Rosedale Court in Detroit to serve a house of prayer. The institution was maintained by the society until 1937. In 1939 the Rosedale Home was replaced with the opening of the Downtown Synagogue. Built in the heart of the teeming business district in Detroit, it exists to serve the convenience of all Jews. |
