Temple Beth El, the first Jewish congregation in the state of Michigan, was established in Detroit in 1850. The founders of Beth El were German immigrants. Rabbi Leo M. Franklin became the 11th spiritual leader in 1898 and went on to serve the congregation for almost 50 years. It was under his tutelage that the annual Year book and pamphlet histories were published. |
