Abstract The Braille Bindery Collection contains correspondence, photographs, Jewish American Braille Institute pamphlets, clippings, newsletters, Irving Katz's history of the Bindery and volunteer lists.
Admin/Biog History The Braille Bindery was started in 1961, by Pearl Hartman, Alice Harris, Belle Morse, and Josephine Bloom. It was started as one of the humanitarian projects of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth El. The bindery was originally only one of seven in the country. The bindery has received citations and awards for its work from The Jewish Braille Institute of America, New York and The Goodwill League, Detroit. The bindery covers all subjects for the blind in both Hebrew and in English, for both institutions and individuals.
