The 1st Regional Conference of Jewish Students was held at Temple Beth El from April 8-10, 1938. The meeting, the first of its kind to be held, was called into being by the Committee on Religious Work in the Universities of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, of which Dr. Bernard Heller, Director of the Hillel Foundation at the University of Michigan, was Chairman, and Rabbi Leo M. Franklin of Temple Beth El was acting co-Chairman. Other organizations who sponsored the conference were the Hillel Foundation of the University of Michigan, the United Synagogues of America, and the Youth Department of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. |
