Abstract The CCAR Collection contains clippings, Union hymnals, pamphlets, programs, lectures, newsletters, and annual convention materials dating from 1914-1989. These materials were collected by Temple Beth El clergy and staff as members of the CCAR.
Admin/Biog History The CCAR was organized at Temple Beth El in Detroit on July 9-10, 1889 during the 11th Council of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. The CCAR was the brain-child of Rabbi Isaac M. Wise, the founder of Reform Judaism in the United States. Rabbi Wise sought to make CCAR a means of establishing a position of dignity for the rabbi in America.
