Abstract The Jewish Tercentenary Collection contains correspondence, meeting minutes, clippings and articles, exhibit catalogs and outline, addresses and speeches, and programs from the American Jewish Tercentenary Committee in New York and the Detroit Committee for the Jewish Tercentenary celebration in 1954.
Admin/Biog History The American Jewish Tercentenary, the commemoration of 300 years of Jewish Settlement in the United States was celebrated in every Jewish community in 1954. The Detroit Branch of the America Jewish Tercentenary Committee (centralized in New York) became known as the Detroit Committee of 300, which organized events and special services as well as an exhibit, "Jewish Life and Culture in Detroit" at the Detroit Historical Museum. Executive Secretary of Temple Beth El, Irving Katz, was on the Detroit 300 Committee and was instrumental in the exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum.
